Servicing

Regular maintenance is key to both on the snow performance and longevity of your equipment. Carrying out the majority of servicing techniques by hand allows us to produce a custom finish and tailor the performance to suit your needs. This is in stark contrast to high volume service centres, with increased mechanisation causing more wear on base and edges. Quality products from Holmenkol and Wintersteiger, coupled with the skills of our experienced technicians, ensures your favourite ride is correctly prepared for upcoming trips.

All you need to do is drop your snowboard or skis into store, where we can perform an initial inspection at no cost and advice on recommended service steps. NO NEED TO BOOK – pop in at your convenience for a typical turnaround time of just 2-3 days.

We also offer an express turnaround facility, even completing work while you wait if required. Due to the requirement for specialist staff please pre book express servicing on 01924 444888.

Q: Does waxing and edge tuning affect the lifespan of my skis or board?
A: The answer to this question depends on type of workshop involved. By their very nature steel edges have a finite life and our skilled technicians will only remove material necessary to ensure perfect performance. For this reason it is not necessary to edge and wax at each service. By contrast the base can be waxed many many times before a grind is required, essentially removing the top layer.

Q: How often should I have my equipment serviced?
A: The interval of servicing will vary greatly depending on usage and snow conditions. General advice would be that if you are unsure then pop in for a free inspection. Bases will generally need little attention unless snow cover has been thin. Waxing is normally required after one week of mountain riding, with edging beneficial every 2-3 wax cycles.

Q: Aside from shop servicing, are there any steps I can take to enhance the lifespan of my board or skis?
A: In addition to professional tuning most steps are common sense, such as avoiding rocks and always using a padded bag for transport. Boards and skis are often left wet, leading to rusty or pitted edges, so ensuring they are thoroughly dry before storage is a must. At the end of the season consider performing a storage service, with wax applied but not removed so as to reduce the potential for dry slow bases the following winter.

DIY maintenance
While home maintenance is not a substitute for a professional service, it does afford you opportunity for periodic maintenance when you can’t access a tech centre.
