For a discussion on the relative merits of custom options for Silverbirch traditional canoes why not read our staff written blog here.

The Firefly is a stand out product within our 14ft solo canoe range but also works incredibly well when outfitted as a tandem for lighter paddlers looking to prioritise easy off the water handling.  Whether you are interested in flatwater glide and efficiency or a confidence inspiring hull for moving water the Firefly has you covered.

When Silverbirch set out to design the now legendary Firefly 14ft model they had one goal in mind.......... Versatility!  The result is a canoe that feel capable in a wide range of condition and varying loads.  The Firefly is a canoe that provides efficiency when used on flat water but somehow feels incredibly confidence inspiring on moderate moving water.  It paddles well with a light payload, but is also more than capable of extended tripping.

Crucially - this is a solo canoe that is light enough to carry solo........

With weights as light as 25.5kg both Silverbirch and the staff at Robin Hood Watersports are confident you are going to love the Firefly!

CONSTRUCTION

All Silverbirch canoes are manufactured in a specialist production facility in Norfolk and are available in two specially developed constructions:

Duracore plus:

Duracore plus is a tough and durable three-layer Polyethylene material that is built to last with a tough, high-density outer skin, a closed cell foam core, and a medium density inside skin to help dissipate the energy from impacts.

Duracore plus is made with a tough, UV stable, and abrasion resistant outer skin, and is easily repairable at home should you ever have an accident and damage it.

Duralite:

The outer skin is made with an incredibly stiff and tough whitewater grade plastic – the best Silverbirch can find.  The internal foam has been optimized to have a lower density, giving a thicker core than that found in Duracore, and the material distribution between the layers has been optimised to make the most of the superior materials.

The result? Stiffer, lighter, and yet just as durable!

The noticeable weight saving over our Duracore laminate puts many models made with Duralite into close competition with more expensive canoes produced with composite or royalex construction methods.

TRIM OPTIONS

Both Duracore plus and Duralite laminates come with a choice of trim options. Vinyl is fitted as standard and comes with a webbing seat, ash handles, and an ash thwart. Beautiful, hand crafted ash gunwales are an optional extra.

VINYL GUNWALES

The custom vinyl gunwale profile is matched with webbing seats, plastic end plates, and ash handles and carrying yoke to give a durable, low maintenance outfitting option.

ASH GUNWALES

Every canoe with ash gunwales is hand finished with pride at the Norfolk production facility. After carefully fitting the ash profiles, the gunwales are planed and oiled by hand, and then matched with ash end plates, ash handles and carrying yoke, and webbing bound ash seats. Not only does it give a beautiful, natural finish, but is several kilos lighter than the vinyl alternative.

Bespoke Options

As every Silverbirch canoe is hand finished in their Norfolk production facility you benefit from the ability to specify options custom to your requirements, including but not limited to:

End Lacing

Factory fitted lacing, stitched directly through the hull under the gunwale for maximum strength and threaded through polyethylene tubing internally for abrasion resistance.

This partial lacing is ideal for use with buoyancy bags up to 32" and is perfect for scenarios where you may not want to have your bags permanently fixed in position.

Airbags are not supplied with this option and shown for illustration purposes only.

Full Length Lacing

Full length lacing of your canoe creates internal attachment points at 80mm intervals throughout the length of your canoe, ideal for securely attaching gear, cargo, and buoyancy to.

Massively boosting the versatility of your boat, full length lacing allows you to quickly vary the configuration of your airbags and gear or to remove it all completely when not needed. As such full length lacing is one of the most popular options.

Airbags are not supplied with this option and shown for illustration purposes only.

Rope End Grabs

Factory fitted rope end grabs, drilled directly through your hull using 10mm floating line in either yellow or orange.

Painters are available in matching colour.

Seating/Thwart/Yoke

A range of seat, thwart and yoke upgrades are available.  Contact us for more information.

Highline Trim

It is possible to specify your new canoe with highline trim, meaning the sidewall of the boat is 25mm deeper for a drier ride in moving water.

Custom Colours

Silverbirch are one of only a few brands capable of producing one off bespoke graphics.  If you'd love to set your artistic side free then please get in touch with us to discuss.

Receiving your order

When you receive your item(s), please check to see if there is any damage.  Once the drivers manifest has been signed it voids any insurance claim. If you are unsure, please sign as "damaged", which will allow you/us to make a claim later on if required.

If you suspect that your goods are damaged please take the time to check the items with the driver present or refuse the package and ask the courier to return to sender.

If you have any further questions regarding delivery please contact us.

Sometimes things don’t go to plan and you might feel the need to arrange a return.  If you receive an order and find you have changed your mind, or the item just isn’t right for you, don’t worry. Goods can be returned for a refund within 30 days from the date of purchase (subject to our product exclusions). The process for both in store and mail order purchases can be seen below:

Postal Returns Procedure

If posting your return please email [email protected] for approval, as well as any advice required prior to sending.  You would then simply ship the unwanted goods to our 152 Leeds Road address, including a copy of your original receipt and information on the required course of action.

Purchases from store

If you bought goods from our Heckmondwike based store you may, at our discretion, be able to return items within 30 days for a full refund, as long as they have not been used and still have the original labels attached. Please bring the items back to the shop, together with your receipt. Any refund can only be made using the same method as the original transaction.

Goods must be returned in an unused, re-saleable condition, with their original packaging, and all labels still attached. They should also be securely packaged to ensure the contents are protected during transit. Our Returns Team will review all items to ensure they meet the criteria outlined in this policy. If an item is returned outside of our Returns Policy, we may be unable to process a full refund. We will contact you in such circumstances.

We hope that your next purchase from our store will be a long term one, so why not make use of our 0% finance offer.  The scheme is run through V12 and our experience, as well as that of our customers, has been excellent.

The 0% finance option allows you to spread the cost of your purchase over 6 or 10 months.  Given the bespoke nature of each application we prefer to discuss this with you, rather than automating the process online.  As such, once your basket is finalised and you are ready to apply please get in touch using [email protected], or by phone on 01924 444888.

We will confirm the availability and price of your order, then emailing a link to your custom application forms. Once completed, V12 notify our staff and you will then be contacted to settle the deposit and arrange a convenient delivery date.
