Already the first tests had shown that we were at the beginning of a revolution. No matter who got the brand new HERO 4 batten wave sail in his hands, no one wanted to give it back. The HERO is adjusted towards Marcilio Browne who does not want to sail with any other sail anymore - it just fits perfectly to his sailing style and the new multi-fin wave boards!
Almost everything is different: The HERO is the impressive production of an ultra modern 4 batten wave sail, which is repleted with the finest components and technical know-how. Regardless of under- or properly powered up, too much pressure or too little, this sail always generates power without becoming unstable. Despite a further draft back position it doesn’t become back handy, even when overpowered. This let’s you imagine, how much the wind range has improved compared to previous 4 batten sails!The low weight makes for an increadible handling. While rigging you can already imagine how light and soft the sail feels. The rotation is smooth as silk, even with minimal outhaul tension.On the water it immediately appears that your back hand is the throttle. Just sheet in and the HERO immediately builds up power, speeds up, and gets you going. On the wave it becomes a discreet engine always ready to accelerate when needed. The top is working very effective supporting the power. Therefore, you can safely choose a sail size smaller than with many other wave sails. This applies to almost any rider, regardless of weight.Kai Hopf developed the BALANCED.LUFF.LENGTH, a precisely balanced ratio of luff length to boom length. As short as possible for most radical throw-ability and as long as necessary to generate sufficient stability for maximum wind range.

Ultralight Freestyle-Wave
Totally new, totally radical and built with the greatest addiction: ID ultralight - the signature model of Victor Fernandez Lopez, Wave World Champion 2010! As the name suggests the ID is a mix between ICE and Duke, which combines the best of both worlds (up to 5.0 based on the ICE design, 5.4 and bigger based on the DUKE design). The result is a super lightweight Freestyle Wave sailing range, which uses the futuristic high-tech laminate “ODL” from yacht sails instead of traditional XPly. This material is 50% lighter than conventional sail cloth and pushes the weight to incredibly low values. To clarify: The weight of the ID ultralight corresponds to a 1.5 smaller DUKE/ICE (e.g. 5.0 compares to 3.5)!
Instantly the ID ultralight is the talk on the beach. It feels absolutely neutral, does not show any unwanted life of its own and is a feather in your hands so that you nearly forget about the sail during moves and manoeuvres. This is one of the most important aspects especially of freestyle! It spins incredibly fast through all tricks even during the most difficult duck moves and feels as if you rotate without sail. With the ID ultralight the success rate of difficult manoeuvres and the fun increases straight away making you automatically go for even more radical moves!
Designer Kai Hopf has compiled the ID ultralight without any compromise. Compared to ICE and DUKE the ID feels a bit softer and adapts to any rotation almost automatically. The fifth evolution of the DUKE. No other sail can cover such a broad range from Wave to flat-water Freestyle! No other sail adapts to all conditions and surprises with its versatility. To achieve this versatility far-reaching innovations and countless prototypes tested in different conditions were necessary. Therefore designer Kai Hopf has involved the whole team to guarantee that the DUKE works for any rider and any condition.
No wonder as the evolution from the 2011 DUKE never stopped. The main objective of the team was an even better handling to allow for even more radical freestyle tricks through a reduced swing weight. Kai Hopf has found ways to reduce the sail weight by approximately 10% without sacrificing strength and durability! In addition, he shortened the luff length, which leads to significantly simplified control. Also, Kai gave the brand new DUKE a more elastic feeling, which gives lots of confidence for even the most difficult manoeuvres. In summary this means: Significant lower weight and improved handling which makes the DUKE feel balanced in your hands and gives you maximum room for your own style. As a power wave/freestyle sail the DUKE works best on single-fin boards.
The requirements for a Power Wave sails and a Freestyle sail are very similar: great planing potential combined with maximum handling and good controllability. Up to 5.0, the DUKE therefore has been designed as a powerful Wave sail. North Natural 2011

The powerful and playful manageable all-arounder now has even more performance than its predecessor and multiple test-winner. This is shown by the fact that all sizes from 6.2 are now equipped with CROSS.BATTEN and CUTAWAY.CLEW which gives the NATURAL not only better acceleration but also an increase in high end stability and speed.
In the course of laborious tests, Kai Hopf developed a new sail layout that requires much less trimming know-how. This means less time and knowledge is required for the setup, without need for subsequent adjustments!
The secret of the perfectly balanced range of the NATURAL is the PROGRESSIVE.BATTEN.CONFIGURATION. As a result, the focus for sizes up to 5.8m2 is still on handling and draft stability, which explains why only 5 battens are in place.
At 6.2m2 and above, the design focuses on performance while Kai Hopf once again concentrated on simple rig control and handling characteristics. Especially for kids and juniors we have put an enormous effort in developing an own sail range. According to the motto: Just the best for the kids!
Most sail brands use exactly the same materials as for their kids sail as in the adult sails (eg heavy X. PLY). Completely over engineered as surf center managers and instructors think and refer to the basic physical requirements. Through years of cooperation with all major schools (eg VDWS, Club Mistral, Planet) NorthSails has gained an enormous competitive edge in this area, which is fully incorporated into the new DRIVE.GROM line. A very balanced shape and lightweight cloths are used which are adapted to the lower weight and the lack of power of the target group. The new DRIVE.GROM therefore is likely the most specialized Kids sail on the market!

North X-Type 2011

The ultimate NoCam performance sail has again increased its performance. The secret is the reduced aspect-ratio, which was acquired by the winning-machine Warp F2010, and the fairly high-tension foil guarantees maximum performance without camber induced support.
Compared to the previous model, the new X_TYPE has improved planing power as the slightly wider chord supports the acceleration. All of this without increasing the boom length as the more pronounced CROSS.BATTEN avoids this. This added versatility combines spontaneous performance delivery with top speed, and offers all the handling and rigging advantages of a NoCam sail. For you this means enormous thrust AND the ease of use of a NoCam sail for enjoying maneuvers.

North S-Type 2011

The S_TYPE is one of our most successful sails in all international magazine tests and is considered as THE reference in this class. For 2011, it has been completely redesigned and got a more compact shape with a slightly longer CROSS.BATTEN similar to the highly successful WARP F2010. This increased chord has an extremely positive effect on the acceleration!
As a result the new S_TYPE has an even better low end push and better than any other sail combines acceleration with impressive performance and plenty of speed - without compromising rig steering and handling! One can immediately feel that this sail incorporates not only all our experience from the NORTH SAILS racing range, but also the power and the latest features of the RAM F10. It‘s fascinating too that that the S_TYPE has gained functionality and is no even more suitable for a larger range of board types.
This is partly due to the familiar SWITCHABLE.CAM.OPTION allowing the sail to be ridden with either 3 or 2 cambers. Now it’s the foot cam which can be removed. The proven CUTAWAY.CLEW outhaul significantly improves handling thanks to a shorter boom and reduced rotation forces.

The latest RAM F11 is like the tough little brother of the World Cup WARP F2010! Even stronger, and with a special and user-friendly character it matches around 90% performance of the fastest WARP we’ve ever built. During its further development for 2010 two aspects were paramount: Improved handling and performance optimization through the entire range of use.
7 battens, a narrower mast sleeve and the reduced weight make the RAM F11 far less physical to handle than the WARP F2010. The brand-new INDEPENDENT.SHAPING.CONCEPT supports this concept decisively. Instead of just using one kind of shaping for the complete sail (sail body and mast sleeve), for the first time Kai’s worked with 2 separate 3-D profiles for the sail body and mast sleeve.
